Onix Wins Department of Interior Contract to Deploy Google Apps

Work to Begin Immediately to Deploy 92,000 Users

LAKEWOOD, OHIO - May 4, 2012 - Onix Networking Corp. announced today that it has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Department of the Interior (“DOI”) to provide Google Apps for Government and related services to the agency’s 92,000 users. The contract is valued at nearly $35 million.

The DOI was looking for a solution that would include email, calendaring, cloud-based email archiving/journaling, instant messaging, desktop video conferencing, Web-based collaboration systems and support for connecting mobile devices while ensuring appropriate security and privacy safeguards. After a thorough review, DOI chose Onix, a Premier Google Apps Reseller, to act as the prime contractor for the implementation.

Onix CEO Tim Needles commented, “We are exceedingly honored by this award and the opportunity to work on this exciting project with such an important agency as DOI.” Dal VanDervort, Director of Federal Sales at Onix, added, “We will be migrating more than 90,000 mailboxes from seven different on-premise systems to the new cloud email system by the end of 2012.” He added, “Saying we are ‘anxious to get started’ would be an understatement.”

To meet the government’s deadline, Onix has created a project plan and will begin work immediately. “Communication is key in any project, but especially one of this scope. Our Human Transition and Change Management process will be a critical component to ensure that DOI employees understand what to expect and when to expect it. This will ensure users are ready for the change when it goes live later this year,” said Onix President of Cloud Computing, Tony Bianco. Onix will also work with the DOI team on the technical aspects and the post go-live support of users.

In a statement issued by DOI, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar said, “Implementing a Department-wide, cloud-based email system that helps modernize the ways we do business while cutting costs is good government, plain and simple. We will continue to identify efficiencies to save time and taxpayer dollars using advances in technology to provide better service for less.” Andrew Jackson, Interior Deputy Assistant Secretary for Technology, Information and Business Services added, “We look forward to providing state-of-the-art communication and collaboration tools, desktop video, document sharing and newmessaging technologies to help Interior employees work more effectively with each otherand with external partners. Not only do we get the features we want in a desired securityenvironment, but our workforce will get the cutting edge technology that many of them use in their personal lives.”
