About the Customer
Evite, the leading digital invitation platform, has been connecting people and celebrating life’s milestones for over two decades. With millions of users across the United States, Evite provides a seamless and convenient way to create, send, and manage online invitations for a wide variety of events – from birthdays and weddings to holiday gatherings and corporate events. Beyond invitations, Evite offers a comprehensive suite of tools to enhance the party planning experience, including RSVP tracking, digital greeting cards, announcements, e-gift cards, and creative party ideas.
The Challenge
Evite was operating with a fragmented data ecosystem across AWS and GCP; their application resided on GCP App Engine, while business reporting relied on AWS Redshift. This division created complexities, hindered efficiency, and limited Evite’s ability to leverage the full potential of Google Cloud’s data analytics capabilities. The goal was to consolidate their data infrastructure on BigQuery for a unified and streamlined approach to data management and reporting.
The Solution
Onix successfully migrated Evite’s data infrastructure from AWS Redshift to Google BigQuery, driving significant improvements in performance and scalability. Our team began by analyzing and designing an optimized architecture on GCP to ensure a seamless transition. We then migrated the data, converted code components, and set up new data pipelines, while developing a high-performance extraction pipeline using Cloud Dataflow to eliminate data loss and performance bottlenecks. To ensure data integrity, we repointed existing reports, orchestrated workflows, and rigorously tested the system with our proprietary Pelican Data Validation Tool. Throughout the entire process, Onix provided comprehensive support, including testing, deployment, and knowledge transfer, ensuring Evite experienced a smooth and successful transition to the Google Cloud platform.
Results
By consolidating Evite’s data infrastructure onto a single, unified cloud platform (GCP), we were able to deliver several significant improvements and meaningful value to the customer’s business:
- Enhanced application performance through optimized data extraction, leading to a better user experience (via web and the mobile app).
- Faster feature additions and reduced time to market due to a streamlined data ingestion design.
- Improved data accuracy (by ~5%) empowering better business decisions.
- Accelerated data loading for faster insights and reporting.
- A future-ready platform with the ability to leverage ML/AI for advanced analytics and innovation.
Conclusion
By migrating Evite’s fragmented data infrastructure to a unified Google Cloud platform, we were able to help streamline their operations, boost performance, and lay the groundwork for future growth. The migration to BigQuery not only eliminated previous inefficiencies but also provided significant business advantages, including faster time to market, improved data accuracy, and enhanced user experiences.
With a future-ready platform in place, Evite is now better equipped to harness the power of machine learning and AI to drive deeper insights and innovate in new ways. This transition positions Evite to continue leading the digital invitation space, delivering seamless, data-driven experiences to millions of users.
